SEJONG EAVES

EAVES that symbolizes Sejong City

Planned to work as a culture education and knowledge exchange hub, Sejong Public Library will support the balanced development of intellectual infrastructure in the local community, and it will become an iconic library that represents Sejong City and even Korea. The eaves of Jiphyeonjeon which is a place where Hangul was created is reinterpreted in an contemporary style, and the spatial abundance and dynamism that can be felt in traditional libraries are taken to design a new type of eaves for the new library.

EAVES that shows different gestures to locals

Rejecting the typical image of libraries, the proposed library's new eaves can actively accommodate rapidly changing social needs and envelop three-dimensional spaces. Three-dimensional sections define architectural spaces. Vertically divided reading and culture zones offer practical and efficient library services.

EAVES that embraces the nature of Sejong City

Being open toward Hanok Village and Goun Garden and borrowing the surrounding scenery, and entrance plaza expands into Eco-hill Square exhibiting the beautiful line of Korean traditional eaves. This Hill Square develops natural lighting and ventilation for Culture Workshop below, and, at the same time, it uses a slope surface and works with the pond of the entrance plaza to ensure optimized water circulation with a low-tech method. The eaves and louvers of each floor provide controlled yet rich natural lighting for the reading room and create a fresh interior environment through coordination with a courtyard and an Eco-shaft system.
